A Tip for Successful Freelance Writing

Here’s one small secret to success as a freelance writer – you must invest in your writing career.
What do I mean by that?
Well, I just mean you need to spend a little money in order to make money.
This is true with most any kind of work you would like to do, not just writing.
When you look around at very successful people in all walks of life, you’ll find that ALL of them made some sort of investment in order to gain the knowledge, information, skills, and products that made them successful.
As a writer, that investment might be in the way of money spent for your writer’s library (volumes of how-to books about writing), a good computer and printer, internet service, website development and hosting, and even some college courses or online workshops about writing.
You might also hire a writing coach.
Even writing coaches have coaches.
I have one.
I also invest in my writing career in many other ways.
I belong to professional organizations.
Periodically, I attend conferences and writers’ workshops.
I subscribe to a variety of periodicals for writers and I’m constantly adding to my writers’ library.
I also constantly invest in Internet tools and resources – software and other tools that help me improve my website and offer more services to the clients I coach and to my readers.
I invest in promotional activities, marketing and advertising opportunities, too.
So, if your writing career isn’t what you want it to be, stop and answer this question: “What have I invested in my career?”
Happy writing!
